In Between

This work contains a strong self-quotation referencing the Liquid Sea series, and specifically the artwork Hippocampus. The seahorse is the only male creature that gives birth, and it does so in water. Here, the work parallels this process through the cycle of a woman. The hormonal cycle and menstruation themselves are presented as part of the reproductive process. The body is understood as containing, in a way, its own internal sea. This work is titled In Between because it essentially describes that, from the moment a woman begins menstruating, her body is in a continuous process of potential fertilization. At the same time, on a social and psychological level, this possibility remains an ongoing question.
